Connect to self: I had a disagreement with a friend before. It made our friendship weaker and caused more arguments. It made me think on how many disagreements can change the way I think of my life. It also happens in society like with the econmy there could be a money issue. It could even be done on the way we treat certain people. It can happen politically like if there is a law people did not like.
Causes of the Civil war
Political causesSlavery was disliked in the north, but the south thought it was important for their economy. This made issues where they had to settle compromises to annex a state. Most southern states believed they have the power to cancel a federal law if they think it is unconstitutional. This put the concept states rights in a serious thought. The Kansa and Nebraska act of 1854 angered the northerners because it repealed the missouri compromise. In 1856 a small scale civil war called bleeding Kansas occured. John Brown led the most violent antislavery campaign. Eventually all the issues lead to South Carolina seceding first.

Social causesThe north had immigrants from other countries come because they could have a job to work in factories. The south did not have as much as they relied on farming on plantations. The book Uncle Tom's cabin was written in 1852 by Harriett Beecher Stowe. The north saw this book and saw the evil through slavery, while the south saw this as a abolitionist propaganda and was very displeased about this. Soon in the mid 1850's people thought the matter of slavery should take place in the courts.

Economic causesThe north relied on factories and free labor for work and manufacturing did not really require slave work. The south had plantations and farming and they used slaves to help them. The south wanted low land costs to expand slavery and cotton farming, low tariff for trading with Europe and have less cost for manufactured goods, and make trading deals with raw farm products. The north on the other hand wanted higher land cost, to discourage westward migration for their labor force and high tariffs to protect U.S goods from foreign deals. These economic differences has made conflicts between the north and the south.

Connect to self: In 1860 I would have joined the republican side with the northerners, because I feel south is wrong on making slaves, and there is also economically some reasons. One personal reason is that I thin the north economy is more effective, but south farming can still continue. Another reason would be socially, because immigrants come o north because of factories and free labor jobs and it would help associate with foreign countries more. But slavery was the big issue and that is what affects my decision the most.
